5 Reasons to Update Your Resume When the Economy is Crashing

5 Reasons to Update Your Resume When the Economy is Crashing

5 Reasons to Update Your Resume When the Economy is Crashing

When the world seems to be crashing down around you, you might be thankful to have a job. And while there’s good reason to be thankful for your employment, it doesn’t mean you should settle for less than your potential.

Now is the time to dust off your resume and have it handy.

Here are five reasons why you may want to update your resume when the economy is crashing.

Job Security Isn’t High

Unfortunately, when the economy is crashing many employers are making tough decisions about staffing. And it’s important to face the fact that your job may be on the chopping block next. This isn’t to scare you, but getting laid off is a lot easier when you’re prepared. Work on your resume while you’re still employed in case the economy gets worse and you’re left unemployed.

Consider a Recession-Proof Profession

Virtually everyone is stressed out during a recession, but there are some people who can breathe a little easier. If you’re in a profession that isn’t likely to stand the test of a crashing economy, now is a good time to consider something more stable. This is a very personal decision, and it’ll be up to you whether you want to ride it out.

You’ll Be Ready for the Upswing

We all know that what comes up must come down. These are the laws of physics, and the economy follows suit. Recessions always end, and if you ride it out, you may be rewarded with a higher-paying job. The most significant pay increases come from switching employers, which is why most people keep their resumes updated at all times. This time of hardship is no exception.

Note Your Current Accomplishments

You’ve probably heard the advice that you should list all your greatest career accomplishments on your resume. And this is true. When you list a tangible contribution to a company on your resume, you give yourself an instant boost over other applicants. And these accomplishments don’t end when the economy begins to crash. Actually, this is your opportunity to shine. As you perform noteworthy tasks at your current job, be sure to update your resume with the current information.

Be Ready for Anything

In uncertain economic times, none of us really know what’s ahead. So if someone asks for your resume, you’re going to want to be ready to hand over a fresh copy. You may not be ready to go out and actively search for another job, but if one comes to you, be ready. If you have to start from scratch, it’s all the more reason to build your resume now. Use a resume builder to help make the process faster and easier.

Final Thoughts

When economic uncertainty hits, it can be scary. We never quite know when the economy has hit rock bottom, and we’re all tempted to stay put in our jobs (if we’re lucky enough to have them). And while this may be a good strategy, it’s still a great idea to keep your resume updated. Because none of us know what tomorrow will bring.
