I would like to give it a whirl some day too. We do P2P lending with our kids (they have a virtual bank account with us) to help teach them about interest. I think it is working OK :-).

Although I haven’t done it personally, it’s something I want to consider. I’ve heard about parents who will participate in small scale P2P lending with a portion of their children’s bank account in order to teach them the value of interest, since the normal savings account rate is so paltry right now.

I agree with you 100% – I think we need to go find some cheap and original artwork to invest in :-).

Real estate is definitely a plus. Besides the traditional investments, I would love to become an angel investor (or a smaller version of it).
